The Fort Smith Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) has announced finalists in the, “5th Annual Giving Recognition in Tourism (GRIT) Awards,” after receiving more than 200 nominations from the public.
The annual awards banquet is hosted by the Fort Smith CVB to honor individuals and organizations that have demonstrated true grit through their contributions to the region’s growing tourism and hospitality industry. The event will be held at the Fort Smith Convention Center (Hall C) at 5:30 p.m. on April 21, 2016.
One Finalists will be announced as a 2016 GRIT Award Recipient from each category. This year’s category finalists include:

Fort Smith Museum of History
Fort Smith Trolley Museum
Business Partner of the Year (No Specific Order):
First National Bank
Polly Crews Hospitality Person of the Year (No Specific Order):
Dennis Snow – Steel Horse Rally
John McIntosh – The Unexpected Project (Downtown Murals)
Jeff Gosey – Peacemaker Music & Arts Festival
During the event, the Fort Smith CVB will also showcase the past year’s Hometown Hospitality Heroes who have played a critical role in bringing conventions and similar events to the city.
“We were pleased to set a record for the number of nominations received for GRIT Awards last year, but this year it took us just four days to surpass that number. More people are realizing tourism’s economic advantages and are doing their part to help grow our industry…..and that deserves recognition,” said Fort Smith CVB Executive Director, Claude Legris.
From now through April 7th, people can vote for the finalists they believe should be chosen as this year’s GRIT Award Recipients. Using the form below, simply select the finalists that you believe should be selected as this year’s Grit Award recipients.
